Spirit Airlines (NK)
Spirit Airlines is the other main ultra-low-cost carrier in the United States and is structurally very similar to Frontier in fleet, business model, and ancillary-revenue strategy. The airline operates an all-Airbus A320-family fleet of around 200 aircraft from focus cities in Florida, the Northeast, the Midwest, and the South, with particular strength in Caribbean and Latin American leisure routes. Spirit went through a turbulent period in the mid-2020s, including a blocked merger with JetBlue, a Chapter 11 restructuring filed in late 2024, and a reorganisation that left it independent and re-listed in 2025. The airline continues to fly its full network and remains the largest US ULCC by available seat miles. Spirit unbundles aggressively: every fare is a 'Bare Fare', and seats, bags, snacks, and printed boarding passes are all sold separately.
